UNDERCOVER

UNDERCOVER is the fusion of three Cops and three Rockers.  The band was formed in 1998 by singer Kevin Gibson, keyboard player Ray Hope, and four brothers: bass guitarist Robert Taylor, drummer Jerry Taylor, rhythm guitarist Mike Taylor, and lead guitarist Dave Taylor.

It all started back in 1988, when Kevin Gibson and Robert Taylor had the good fortune of meeting one another as recruits in the police academy.  Once aware of each other's musical background, they developed a destined friendship and began jamming together.  Shortly after, Kevin was introduced to Robert's three brothers, each of whom were already talented musicians, and the five would get together to jam from time to time, keeping family ties close while sharing a desire to play together.

In 1990 Kevin met Ray Hope at an Akido martial arts class.  During their years of training, Ray discovered that Kevin was involved with a group of guys who were getting together once in a while to jam it up.  Kevin asked Ray if he wanted to join in, and Ray accepted.

As fate would have it, in 1993 the six members decided to play together as a group in Robert's basement.  Initially, leaning to play strictly cover tunes would serve to give them a repertoire sufficient to debut as UNDERCOVER at the inaugural "Cops & Rockers" charity social for the Law Enforcement Torch Run in May of 1994.  A success in itself was realized as they played along side the likes of Chris Burke-Gaffney of the Deadbeat Honeymooners and Kenny Shields of Streetheart fame.

UNDERCOVER was a hit and would continue to perform at this annual event.  This would eventually earn them a full-page press article in the Winnipeg Sun, which echoed rave reviews of their performance.

In December of 1995 Undercover tested a few of their original songs as they participated in the 92 CITI FM Band Wars competition.  They would find themselves competing with over 90 other Winnipeg bands, but secured themselves one of the 14 coveted spats on the Homegrown CD.  This accomplishment was later featured in a television episode of Live on Lombard with Kimberly Carole.

In response to overwhelming interest expressed by their fans, Undercover recorded their own self-titled CD in the fall of 1996.  This CD was subsequently released in 1997.
